History
Burcott began as an outlying hamlet of Wing; its Old English name means 'fortified cottage'. The crescent-shaped High Street looping back to Soulbury Road reflects a small roadside settlement later absorbed by Wing's growth. Nonconformist worship was a local feature by the 19th century, with the Union Chapel on the route from Wing to Burcott. Although much merged today, Burcott's name preserves a glimpse of the early hamlet landscape.
