History
Chesham Bois grew around its medieval manor and St Leonard's church. The manor passed to the Cheyne family in the 15th century and later to the Dukes of Bedford. Archaeology drew attention when Channel 4's Time Team investigated the manor site, revealing a 17th-century kitchen or bakehouse range and earlier medieval features. Until the 1920s it remained a small rural parish; suburban growth followed the Metropolitan Railway's expansion to nearby Amersham.
