History
Great Missenden prospered as a coaching stop on the London–Aylesbury route and earlier around Missenden Abbey, a 12th-century Augustinian foundation. The parish church of St Peter and St Paul is chiefly 14th–15th century; bells were moved there after the abbey's dissolution. Modern fame came via resident author Roald Dahl, buried in the churchyard, but the settlement's form still reflects medieval and coaching-era origins.
