History
Ivinghoe Aston was historically a separate manor with two Domesday estates. It later passed to the Duncombe family at Barley End and by 1806 was absorbed into the Ashridge estate of the Earls of Bridgewater. A Wesleyan chapel opened in 1831 and a school was endowed in 1848, showing the hamlet's 19th-century growth. Despite these additions, Ivinghoe Aston remained a scattered rural settlement framed by moats, greens and old field boundaries.
